Turmeric

Turmeric Root and powder

Turmeric is a member of the ginger family. Best known as the spice that gives curry blends their yellow colour, its active ingredient ‘curcumin’ also has great healing properties.

It is grown in Indonesia, China and other parts of the tropics. The medicinal part of turmeric comes from the underground rhizomes or roots, which are harvested in winter, boiled or steamed and then dried.

Turmeric has been used in Indian and Chinese medicine for thousands of years. It is an important part of Ayurvedic medicine where it is used to support digestion and circulation.

This long standing herb has also been found to have anti-inflammatory properties, making it useful for IBS and arthritis. It is found in our Thisilyn Turmeric Xtra alongside artichoke (which helps support digestion and the liver).
